Local group supports migrant women

South Perth based not for profit organisation Reach Her Inc will run a series of support workshops for women after receiving funding through the City’s Community Development Grant.

Reach Her Inc is a newly formed local organisation that offers assistance to women, especially those who have migrated to Australia, to gain the skills they need to find employment and become financially independent.

Workshops will run at George Burnett Leisure Centre in Karawara starting with a Women’s Circle on Friday 17 February.

Reach Her Inc founder Maryann Tsai draws on her own experience migrating from Taiwan and the cultural differences that made it difficult for her parents to gain employment.

“As migrant women ourselves, we know first-hand how challenging the migration experience can be, placing many migrants -especially women- in vulnerable positions.

“They can encounter a lack of opportunities, discrimination, isolation, mental health issues, and domestic violence amongst other challenges and hardships.”

The Community Development Grant is open to sporting clubs, community groups and other organisations to run projects that benefit the City of South Perth community and applications are open year-round.
